Alternate Reality Game

"Play the game you wish to see in the world"

How to Play
Work together with a group of 3-6 players to fill out this form. More players can join once you start.

Your goal is to collectively imagine an alternate reality that would change aspects of your daily lives.

It can be utopian (all material scarcity is solved!), dystopian (the power grid has been destroyed!), or anything else you are curious to inhabit and explore.

Why play an alternate reality game?

Name your reality. Feel free to return to this at the end.

Names, handles, or signatures.

What are the circumstances of this alternate reality? What changed, when, and how does it touch daily life?

What must players abide by while the game is active?

What accomplishments are you working towards?

How does the game end? Win/loss condition, set duration?

When is the game live? Are there scheduled events?

A pause phrase any player can use to temporarily step out of the game, no questions asked. Exceptions where the game never applies: work, driving, health, etc.

Your game is in the library.

This is your group's private edit link. Anyone who has it can update the game:

Bookmark it or save it in your group chat. It cannot be recovered if lost. Share it only with your players.

bc it fun, duh!
play need not justify itself!

Societally, we've inherited some pretty bad games.

The rules are imbalanced and inconsistent, the metrics are often disconnected from player experience, and it seems like agentic fun was confused for consumptive entertainment.

What if we could instantly transform the play space that we're operating in? What if we could iterate on the design and revise the system until it's actually enjoyable to participate in?

It may take many more generations of systemic play-tester participation to change the core mechanics effecting NPC's and new players at large, but ARG's exist on the belief that collective imagination is all we need to change our reality, right now.
